Research Internship Program at PRTPP BRIN
A practical research internship at BRIN for undergraduate students and recent graduates. Gain direct laboratory experience in food microbiology, pathogen detection, and data analysis under professional mentorship.
Instructor: Dr. Nodali Ndraha
Location: KST Umar Anggara Jenie, 3rd floor
Overview
The BRIN Research Internship Program (Program Magang Riset) offers students the opportunity to step out of the classroom and into a professional research environment. Located at the Research Center for Food Technology and Processing (PRTPP) BRIN in the Umar Anggara Jenie Science and Technology Park, Gunungkidul, this internship is designed to build foundational research skills in food safety.
Interns will actively assist in ongoing research projects focused on microbial risk assessment and the ecology of foodborne pathogens. Under my mentorship, you will gain practical, hands-on experience in microbiological techniques, including the isolation and identification of pathogens such as Salmonella, Staphylococcus aureus, and Listeria monocytogenes from local Indonesian food matrices. Depending on the active project phase, interns may also be introduced to advanced methodologies, including rapid molecular detection assays (such as MIRA) and basic biological data visualization using R programming. This program is an excellent opportunity for students preparing their final-year thesis (Skripsi) or those seeking to build a robust skill set for a future career in food science and research.
Prerequisite
- Active undergraduate students (Bachelor’s/S1) or recent graduates in Food Science, Microbiology, Biology, Molecular Biology, or closely related fields.
- A basic understanding of standard microbiological laboratory techniques and safety protocols.
- High curiosity, strong attention to detail, and a collaborative attitude in a laboratory setting.
- Official approval or a recommendation letter from your home university (if the internship is being used to fulfill academic credits or a final-year thesis requirement).
How to join:
- Initial Contact: Send a brief cover letter and your current Curriculum Vitae (CV) to my personal email, outlining your academic background, laboratory skills, and specific interests in food safety research.
- Review & Interview: If your background aligns with our current laboratory needs, we will schedule a brief online interview to discuss potential internship activities, timelines, and project availability.
- Document Preparation: Obtain an official recommendation or introductory letter from your university faculty addressed to BRIN.
- Official Registration: Once we have agreed on the internship scope, submit your official application and upload the required university documents through BRIN’s Talent Management Information System (SIMANJA) or the E-Layanan Sains (ELSA) portal under the internship/research assistant category.
